The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber

First and foremost, I am not very like the story because it is all about a fantasy. Fantasy is fun we are in it but it doesn’t go anywhere. We just stuck in our own world and sometimes we can imagine beyond ourselves. Some people like to do so but some people like me are not. I find that it is just a waste of time unless we truly know that we can achieve what we been dreaming of. For an example, I dream of getting a new smart phone and I try best to save some money and buy it. Now, I am able to get one. It is different from Mr. Mitty who like to dream in the day at anywhere. It is weird for that particular age and you are still dreaming like a boy who are at age ten years old. I probably think that Mr. Mitty should wake up from his dreaming and realize that he is in the real world where he got wife to handle and to care. Like I said just now, fantasies are not taking you anywhere unless you are certainly sure about getting it or to in it. The ending of the story is not very pleased me. The story should end more in a better way. Lastly, we should really consider the people around us and interact with them and try to stop dreaming something that we couldn’t achieve.       

The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant

From my opinion, this story is quiet okay and the people are categorized into many classes based on their reputation and wealth. I think money is everything for them at that century and people that are poor are trying hard to be the same level from the upper class. Actually, they should unite together in the country and help each other. I am very attracts to the husband character that is humble and will try everything that he could to make his wife pleased and happy. For an example, he would find some money for his wife to buy a dress for that party. It shows that he love her and doesn’t want to make his wife sad and cry. As his wife is too fussy about that party, he will try his best to make it happen. Love can make us do anything although it is impossible for some people. His wife had borrowed a necklace from her closest friend, and it is lost when they getting home. His wife should be more careful and not to be a careless person. She should notice when the necklace had missing. His husband try to search anywhere for that necklace because they got no money to replace it. It turns out, the necklace is really lost and they have to borrow some money from people at here and there. It is such a hard time for his husband. After they got replaced for that necklace, they got another problem to lay all the debts back. Why they didn’t just tell the truth at their friend? Now, they have to pay all the debts that cost more than a thousand. After ten years, she meets her friend back and tells the truth about the necklace. She was surprised to know the real price of that necklace. It cost lower than they think and the necklace it’s actually a limitation. I also was shock to know. From that, it is better that she tells the truth to her friend because she had suffered a lot within the ten years. 

Twelve and not stupid by Zuraidah Omar

Based on the story, I really think that the family is wonderful and loyal to each other. At first, I thought that her father were having affairs with Auntie May and doesn’t want her mother to know but it was all wrong. His father is very noble to help Auntie May that having some problem with his husband that she never sees for quite some month. Although he is kind and want to help people, he shouldn’t hide from his wife. He should actually share and try to explain what is exactly happens. If he tries to hide things from his wife, it will probably turn into some gossip or rumors that can make their own relationship distant. As a couple, we should learn not to hide any problem or difficulties from your couple and learn to share. Our behavior will reflect back to our child. If we acting that way, the child will be confuse with their parents and so many questions will play in their mind. There are many moral values that can be found in the short story that we can take as a lesson in the future. Another example is regarding the Auntie May’s husband. He shouldn’t neglect his own wife and not seeing them for more than a month. He has a responsibility towards his wife and their own son. I felt sorry that boy that grows up without his father on his side to guide him and love him. An action should be taken towards his husband as it is not a small matter. After reading throughout this whole story, I always wonder what my life would be in the future after got marry. This is truly a lesson that everyone should take. 

A Family by Guy de Maupassant

This story is quite similar to me because we have best friends in the world that cannot be turn into anything else. I am also experience the same thing which is having a best friend for so many long times. We can do anything together and know when both of us having some problem. Back to the story, I think George was surprised with the change on his best friend and his marriage. He was also surprised that Simon has five children and how he adopts all this marriage things. I think many people that are still single will think on that way of the negative things about marriage but I think Simon is happy with his wife and his children. They are all he had in this word that cannot be trade into something else. George doesn’t understand yet about marriage. He need to try to accept that his best friend is already changed and has family to take care. Simon doesn’t have time to enjoy himself like he used to be with George. They both grown up and have better things to do. Besides, family is all important to him. George doesn’t have to feel sad about Simon’s life. I am sure Simon knows how to handle it. 

'Mango Moods' by Reeta Mani

This story touches my feelings. I am very amazed on how Chitra had suffered and how she uses all her energy to survive. She is very strong women I ever met. She compares her life with mangoes tree that have an upside down life. Although she had suffered a lot from her mother in law, she still dedicated her life towards her mother in law and her husband. Her husband was not really support her and understand her very well. He just seems to agree all of her mother’s saying. As a grown up man, he should protect his wife and defend her when he was abuse internally.  I am not saying that he should disobey his own mother but as a husband, how could you see your wife in that kind of miserable person. It is just about the matter of time to get a son. They need to try harder to get a baby and use all the possibilities way to get a baby. Her mother in law should understand on how she really felt inside. She is trying her best way to make everyone else happy. Every sadness and pain that she had, she is never complaining about it. I am very proud on how she survives. Her husband should always with her and accompany her when she goes for a medical checkup. He needs to be a responsible husband and love his wife the way it suppose to be. He can’t just depend on her friend. Ran away from the problem and spending time at the office cannot solve the problem. In my or opinion, they should discuss among them on how to make things getting better. After eight years of marriage, she had gone pregnant and she had all the attention from the world. What kind of justice is that? After suffer so many times, her mother in law trying to make friend with her. She only cared about the baby. I am very happy to see that Chitra is happy when she delivers the baby. Everyone seems happy with that and I am really hoping that her mother in law will stay nice towards her.

The Open Window by H. H. Munro (Saki)

First and foremost, I would find that this story is quite interesting and very mysterious at the beginning. I am almost believed the story that has been told by the young girl about his uncle.  At the beginning of the story, I am amazed at the child on how she would create that very spooky story at Mr. Nuttel. I really thought that the tragedy was really real and I am very touch on how her aunt could survive it. On her age, she should be the one she love and close to her family. But it turned out that it was just all a fake story. In my mind, I have already about scary thing that would appear on that very own window. From my experience watching some movies, first scary things that happen is at the window. On my mind, I already think, what is going to happen at her aunt and the child? There are so many questions playing in my mind. I am pleased that it was just a story. I am glad that her husband is already returned and back t her aunt but it is still weird for me because they are entered from the window. Besides that, it is funny when Mr. Nuttel ran away from the house without saying any goodbye or apologies to her husband. Suppose Mr. Nuttel is influence by the story from the child. 

My Friend Luke by Fernando Sorrentino

After I read the short stories, I felt very sorry for Luke that having a complicated and boring life. He is very kind towards people and very naive’s person and he is most weird person I would ever imagine in my entire life. How such a nice man like Luke is married to such pathetic and temper wife? He could find someone better and appreciate him and treat him like a husband. As a man, he should show what are the capability that he can do with the company and he need to manage his family properly so that his wife are not the one who are controlling everything. A husband are the leader for the family, this family are need to discuss among them and he need to be a leader that have self confidence to manage his family. The wife in other hand should not treat his husband like that. She needs to have some respect and treat his husband like a king. She needs to welcome his husband when he got home, having a dinner together for an example. This thing would make them close to each other and they can have better relationship in the future. Besides that, Luke is a very hardworking person in his company. His boss should gratitude him with a compliment or bonus because he is doing such a remarkable job. But, it is not happening. He still treated like an unintelligent employee. How sad life that Luke are into? I am very not pleased, how people in his surrounding treated him that way. He should get better than this. I think, to make all that happen, he should change his attitude, because he need to make people respect him. He should repress his own overwhelming personality in order to make room for the actualization of the rest of the family group. Besides that, he needs to communicate with other in order to build up his confidence.

All's Fair in Vietnam (Asean) by Noah Klinger

First and foremost, in my opinion, how can a skin tone affect a certain person in terms of beauty or others? For many women in this world, skin tone is like everything and they willing to do anything to be a perfectly gorgeous. At Vietnam, I was shock to know that the women there are really take it seriously about this matter. For them, the most important symbol was a pearl-white, luminous face- ‘a face like the moon’. In the West, they would use their leisure time to hang out on the beach for hours but not in Vietnam. In Vietnam, they would toll in rice paddies in the blazing sun. Vietnamese would very shock if they see people who are fairer than them. They are not ashamed to ask how much it cost to be fair than they are now. As like the writer, he/she was very self-conscious about the look. Back to the West, he/she are rather stay at the patch of shade rather than everyone else who are enjoy their self at the beach. For me, why did you need to go the beach if you are extremely conscious about your skin tone? In Vietnam, however, this curious genetic discrepancy became a source of admiration for the locals. They are really amazed how fairest the West people are. Sometimes, they would give a compliment to them. Funny part is they are grabbing the writer’s hand and holding it up to their own sake of comparison. It is not surprised that a women are demanding to know what kind of special diet the writer are having to maintain such a complexion. From the short stories, I found that it is not necessary for all women at there to solve the problem of protecting themselves from UV rays by wearing an assortment of coverings, including hats, gloves and face-masks that make them look like motorbike-driving  or a cell phone-chatting ninjas. This is because the cost of sunscreen is expensive. Actually, what are the points of using so many products to look beautiful but actually the harder you try to change your look, you can look like deathly ill person. For me, you need to accept what you really look like because the real beauty comes from the inside. Once the insides are beauty, you will look naturally beauty physically. I would not say it is wrong but we need a self confidence and a little adoration about our look.
